About
I am an artist and a scientist using photography in a self expression and to engage and provoke emotions
- whatever they may be - in the viewer. My photography is, however, a melting pot of documentary, street, candid and fine art photography. Never objective, it always relies on an inspiration and the 'decisive moment';
it has little to do with commission and it is always created as an art form.
I almost exclusively work with a traditional monochrome film (unless I carelessly brake my only camera at hand in a remote place being left just with a mobile phone - more about this in one of my blog posts). Although so far I have always used professional labs for film processing, I did set up at home a portable darkroom where I play around with traditional printing. However traditional this all may sound, I am quite experimental with
formats, films and cameras.
I have to admit that my preferred camera is a very simple, light and largely plastic, Nikon F75 in a popular
135mm format. I have 4 lenses: prime 50mm, standard zoom 35-80mm, telephoto 70-300mm and a super special Daguerreotype Achromat 64mm art lens (modern "reproduction" of, or a take on, the 19th century first photographic lens by C. Chevalier for the Daguerrotype camera). Most of my photos are taken solely with Nikon F75 with the prime lens. I do have some filters, but with the exception of infrared films, I rarely really use them. It's just too bulky and inconvenient for candid photography I'm guessing, as I always forget about them!
The list of my cameras is slightly longer though. I have a true fondness for old cameras, and currently own a 120mm medium format, pseudo TLR Voigtlaender Brilliant (c.1932), a 135mm Super Baldina of Balda Werke (c.1936), a classic Olympus Trip 35 (1960s), the legendary Leica M3 (1960), and a medium format compact yet professional Fuji GS645W (1983) . All in full working condition. A modern addition to the collection has been also a large format, cardboard pinhole Ilford Camera Obscura that takes 4x5 sheet film.
